July
Testing

Congratulations to the students who tested in June. There were four A’s awarded and Jasmine earned the highest score for this testing. The next yellow belt testing will be on July 23rd at 6 p.m.

Summer Picnic

The Summer Picnic will be on Saturday, July 17 starting at 11:00 a.m. The picnic will be a potluck & BBQ event. The school will provide the BBQ with hamburgers, hotdogs, plates and condiments. A sign up sheet will be posted for everyone to pick what they wish to bring so that we don’t end up with too many duplicates. We will have some time for games and a raffle as well.

Independence Day

The 4th of July is a day to celebrate our independence as a country. In the course of doing so, most people tend to stay up late and will be quite tired the next day. So, in observation of Independence Day, we will be closed on July 5th to allow plenty of recuperative time for everyone.

Friday Classes

The Friday classes for weapons and sparring training have been sparsely attended. If there is not additional interest in the class we will no longer be offering the class soon. As long as there are students attending regularly, we will continue Friday Classes.

Tournaments

I have been receiving more interest in tournaments as of late. There is a tournament in Stockton that I will be attending and encourage students interested in trying it out to come and compete, or even just watch. The division break downs make it easy to get started at any rank or age. For further information, please talk to Mr. Payne

June
June Testing

The June testing for all ranks will be on Saturday, June 19 at 10:00 a.m. It is important that students arrive early, no late students will be allowed to test, and will have to wait until the next testing. Remember to set aside plenty of time for the testing, as all students are required to stay and support their fellow students until the end of the test. The sooner students register and confirm their testing, the sooner I can have a reliable estimate for how long the test will last. The test is expected to last around 2 hours at this point.

Holidays

Memorial day weekend falls on the last weekend before June. In honor of Memorial day, there will be no class on Monday, May 31. Independence Day falls on a Sunday this year. In honor of Independence Day there will be no class on Monday, July 5.
Enjoy your three day weekends and get energized for your next class.

Father's Day

Apologies for missing Mother's day, My personal plans for the mothers in my life prevented me from setting anything up for the mothers of the school. Your contributions to your families and the community are greatly appreciated at Han Mi.
In honor of Father's Day which falls on June 20, the following Monday, June 21 parents will be invited to attend class with their students. Although it follows Father's Day, any parent, guardian or adult family member may join the class to workout with the kids. we will be doing basic techniques and some partner training so that you may work directly with your student. If both parents and/or older siblings wish to attend there is certain to be someone that needs a partner for the workout so feel free to have multiple members of the family attend.

Class Ettiquette

With the introduction of sparring for many of the students recently, some parents are unsure of what is appropriate as far as cheering for their student's during class. It is important to understand first that parent's should not address their children during class unless invited to by the instructor. You may assume that, unless otherwise stated, all parents have a standing invitation to root for the students during sparring. Simple cheering and encouragement is the best choice for sparring time. You may try coaching your student, but remember that coaching is not allowed during most tournaments. Also, class sparring is a time for development of timing, distance judgement, speed and application of technique. The goal is not to "beat" one's opponent in class, but to improve and to assist their partner in improving. Remember, and remind your students that all of us are partners in one goal; to continually improve our own and our partners skills with every drill, exercise and skill training.
